Since January 2023, World Horti Center has a location in Korea. World Horti Center Korea is part of Kyungpook National University and the Smart Farm Innovation Valley in Sangju.
This international location strengthens the connection between the Netherlands and Korea. Key pillars of this collaboration include knowledge sharing, joint research on technological innovations, and talent development. Within the university, World Horti Center has an office, along with an innovation and research centre.
Milestones in Korea
Since its establishment in January 2023, World Horti Center Korea has been actively committed to the development of the greenhouse horticulture sector in South Korea. Through training programs, seminars, international collaborations, and knowledge sharing, WHC Korea has built a strong bridge between the Netherlands and South Korea, including:
International Collaboration
Visit to World Horti Center Netherlands
Delegations from WHC Korea visited the WHC headquarters in the Netherlands to explore collaboration opportunities and exchange knowledge with companies such as Rijk Zwaan, Certhon, Hoogendoorn, and Wageningen University & Research.
Participation in GreenTech Amsterdam
WHC Korea attended GreenTech Amsterdam to discover the latest innovations in greenhouse horticulture and strengthen partnerships with Dutch companies.
Signing of an MOU with K.O.A.T. Smart Agriculture Headquarters
WHC Korea signed a cooperation agreement with the Korean Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency to further develop smart farming in South Korea.
Education & Training
Dutch Smart Farm Training for Korean growers
In collaboration with Lentiz and WHC Netherlands, training sessions were organized on autonomous cultivation strategies and energy-saving techniques in greenhouses.
Smart Farm Design & Construction training
A specialized course covering environmental measurements, greenhouse design, and advanced cultivation techniques to support growers and future farmers in Korea.
Online Training on Plant Empowerment
Led by GPE co-author Peter van Weel, focusing on energy-efficient cultivation strategies and sustainable greenhouse management.
Tomato & Strawberry Technology training
An in-depth course on water management, seedling production, and circular hydroponic systems, delivered by experts from Korean universities.
Seminars & Events
International Expert Seminars & Consulting
WHC Korea hosted several seminars with Dutch and Korean experts, including speakers from Artechno, Priva, HortiTech, and the Korean Ministry of Agriculture.
Local & International Consulting for Korean growers
Dutch experts, including Puck van Holsteijn (WHC CEO) and Perry van Adrichem (HortiTech CEO), provided tailored advice to Korean growers and businesses.
