Rico van Selm: ‘World Horti Center is voor het Westland megagoed.’
On the premises of World Horti Center, next to the building of MBO Westland an atrium is built. A construction of steel and glass. Behind that is the greenhouse of Demokwekerij Westland. A lot of work is done by company El Cinco.
Rico van Selm (44), together with Marco Bulsing, owns El Cinco from Wateringen. He explains where the company is involved: "We are a assembly and dismantling company. From a garage box or a conservatory in the garden to something like what we are doing at World Horti Center, but often much bigger: we build it. In addition, we place water silos and assemble assimilation lighting. Our field of work is mainly abroad. Smiemans sells a lot of projects all over the world and we are doing a lot for them as a subcontractor. For example, we had a conservatory for the queen of England and when the King of Kuwait visited, he said, "That's what I want!" Then we stayed in Kuwait with six men for nine months and built a conservatory of 6000 m2. Westlanders do not really know what we are doing. They often think we're just dismantling greenhouses, but we hardly do that. World Horti Center is a beautiful project: now everyone can see what we do. It is also fun for us. We are always away from home and now we work close by. Absolutely great."
